Originally both a military outpost and a trading post, Oconee Station State Historic Site is still home to the William Richards House, and a stone blockhouse dating to the late 1700s. Take a guided tour, or hike the site's trails to Station Cove Falls.
Housed in a restored 1892 tobacco barn, the Oconee Heritage Center is a community operated museum. Featuring exhibits and historic information on the area from the antebellum era on through modern times, it also hosts special events throughout the year.
An abandoned attempt to link Charleston and Cincinnati, Stumphouse Mountain Tunnel was never completed. Visitors can now walk halfway through the 1600 ft long tunnel, which was also used by Clemson University as an ideal location for curing blue cheese.
